Data Management

SMA utilizes the most up-to-date and industry-leading database management software, EQuIS™ (hosted by EarthSoft, Inc.), to manage the data for a wide variety of sampling and remediation activities. This software enables efficient data management as well as providing powerful tools for data analysis within a protected environment. The EQuIS™ database safeguards data against unauthorized access and remote hosting provides complete data redundancy.

Within a consistent data management framework, SMA currently utilizes EQuIS™ as the primary database for sites throughout the Midwest, including one with over 15 million records. EQuIS™ provides robust data analysis support including the preparation of report, graphs, graphics, and generating third-party exports for other supplemental software programs.

Additionally, SMA utilizes proprietary, industry-leading workflows to deliver reliable, traceable, and defensible data products from field collection (and historic migration) to high-level interpretation. Working with laboratories and field services, SMA receives and manages data via electronic data deliverables (EDDs) which are uploaded directly into the database.

To date, SMA’s Data Management Group has reliably maintained:

  • Analytical Data (GW, Soil, Vapor, and Field Parameters)
  • Well and Soil Boring Installation Data
  • Geotechnical Data (Surveyed Coordinates, and Elevations)
  • Fluid Elevations (GW, Product, Manual Gauging and Transducers)
  • Geologic and Stratigraphic Data
  • Meteorological Data
  • Production Well Data (Volumes, Rates, and Operational Parameters)
  • Remediation Operational Parameters
  • CPT/MIP/LIF Data
  • Primary Source Documents and Records

While legacy data migration can often be a challenge to incorporating a comprehensive Data Management Plan, SMA’s personnel have extensive experience migrating facilities of all scales in a cost-effective and quality-assured process.

SMA’s data management approach and in-depth familiarity with the cutting-edge software ensures consistent data transfer between field technicians, remediation experts, and clients. Supplemental software used by SMA for data integration, analysis, and site management include:

  • ESRI ArcGIS
  • Autodesk AutoCAD
  • Google Earth Pro
  • Microsoft Access (VBA-enabled custom databases, EDD streamlining)
  • Microsoft Excel (VBA-enabled EDDs)
  • Golden Software Grapher™ and Surfer®
  • Tableau
  • gINT
  • EnviroInsite
